Mums and Dads ask OnlyDads for recommendations and signposting to services than can help children going through a difficult patch. At OnlyDads we know that single-parenting is rarely easy. More than that though, we know that however “normal” divorce and separation is, children often struggle coming to terms with the facts of family break-up. Relate put it well…
…”Helping your children to manage the stresses of life can be particularly difficult when you’re going through a difficult time yourself. Many young people won’t want to burden a parent who they may feel has enough problems of their own, so it’s important they know that you’re there for them and want to help. They also need to see that although you’re struggling, you are coping and your love for them doesn’t change. By doing this you’re setting an excellent example and showing them that loving and supporting each other is the most important thing.
As a Dad myself, I know how hard it is to deal with every emotion and “feeling” that my own girls have from time to time. Sometimes, help from a third party can really help. Together with our sister site OnlyMums we have no hesitation in signposting to Relate. The video below says it all!
(and on behalf of us single dads everywhere – well done Relate for recognising that some children at least do end up living with Dad after divorce)
